EU General Affairs Council Meeting in Brussels

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Elena Shekerletova represented Bulgaria at today’s regular meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union, held in Brussels. The ministers discussed key items on the Union’s agenda, including the draft Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period after 2027, the legislative simplification programme, and the regulation on language use in the EU.

On 15 July 2025, political consultations were held in Sofia between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Armenia. The Bulgarian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Elena Shekerletova, while the Armenian side was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Vahan Kostanyan.

Public Lecture on the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

A public lecture by Associate Professor Kaloyan Simeonov, Doctor of Political Sciences and lecturer in the Department of European Studies at Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski”, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). The lecture, titled “Myths and Realities Surrounding the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria”, was organised by the Diplomatic Institute as part of the current training course for junior attaché trainees at the MFA and was attended by a number of ministry officials.

The meeting was held online with the presentation of the priorities of the Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office by H.E. Mrs. Elena Shekerletova, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Georg Georgiev received, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of Australia to Bulgaria, H.E. Ms Alison Duncan, who is accredited in Athens. Both sides gave a high assessment of the friendly relations between Bulgaria and Australia, grounded in shared values and common interests. The meeting included discussions on the positive prospects within the EU–Australia dialogue, including the resumption of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement, as well as the development of the NATO–Australia dialogue.

Bulgaria Officially Assumes the Chairmanship of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation

On 14 July 2025, the Republic of Bulgaria officially assumed the Chairmanship of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). The inauguration took place during a video conference coordination meeting involving the BSEC Committee of Senior Officials, the related BSEC bodies, and the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat. In her address to the participants, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Elena Shekerletova outlined the key priorities of Bulgaria’s Chairmanship, reflecting the vision of a prosperous and united Black Sea community.
