The European Health Insurance Card enables all citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria with continuous health insurance rights in the countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland to benefit from the right to medical care. Information on the rights conferred by the EHIC, the countries for which it is valid and the procedure for issuing it can be obtained HERE.

Practical advice:

Travellers should have valid identity documents, tickets and insurance, as well as a European Health Insurance Card.

We advise you to conclude a contract for health, tourist, travel or other insurance in advance.

If for any reason you are detained by the local authorities, you have the right to require to get in touch with the Diplomatic or Consular Mission of the Republic of Bulgaria in Madrid, as well as with the General Consulate in Valencia. The consular officer will contact you as soon as possible.

In cases of death of Bulgarian citizens in Andorra, the Consular Office with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria will provide you with assistance and help in settling the formalities.

Bulgaria and the Principality of Andorra are parties to the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. Therefore, the documents/deeds drawn up in each of the two countries should bear an Apostille by the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as be translated and duly authenticated in order to serve before the authorities of the other country.

European Emergency Travel Document

In extreme situations — in case of damage, loss or theft of a passport, Bulgarian citizens may apply for an European Emergency Travel Document at any embassy of an EU member state in Andorra.
