The Republic of Bulgaria does not have an embassy in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. For any consular issues, all Bulgarian citizens staying either short-term or long-term in Mauritania can refer to the Bulgarian Embassy in Tunisia.

Travel papers and visas

Bulgarian citizens enter IR Mauritania with a passport with period of validity of not less than 6 months as at the date of travel. Other special documents are not requested.

Bulgarian citizens travel to Mauritania with visas which may be obtained through the Bulgarian Embassy in Tunisia or the Mauritanian Embassy in Berlin. From late May 2014 it is possible to obtain visa at the airport in Nouakchott

Upon need, the Bulgarian citizens residing in Mauritania may address for assistance the embassies of  EU member states at place.   

Consular services may be rendered at the closest Bulgarian diplomatic or consular representative office.

Emergency Travel Document:

In extraordinary situations, such as damaged, lost or stolen passport, the Bulgarian citizens can apply for an Emergency Travel Document at the embassy of any EU member state in Mauritania.

Certification and Legalisation:

In order to be valid in Bulgaria and recognised by the Bulgarian institution any documents issued by the authorities in Mauritania must bear the stamp of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After that they should be certified by the embassy of Mauritania in Tunis. The signature and certification of the Mauritanian embassy in Tunis should be certified at the consular service of the embassy of Bulgaria there.

The documents should then be translated into Bulgarian by an authorised translation agency in Bulgaria and certified by the Certifications and Legalisations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
