Republic of Serbia

Diplomatic relations with Serbia were established in 1879.

Bulgaria provides principled support for Serbia's integration into the EU, based on the principle of own merits in meeting the established criteria.

In its bilateral relations with Republic of Serbia, Bulgaria seeks to achieve priority goals and objectives, including: the establishment of the principle of good neighbourly relations;  preservation and development of the national and cultural identity of the Bulgarian national minority in Republic of Serbia; maintaining active high and top-level political dialogue; development of working cooperation between the sectoral ministries of the two countries; increase of trade and tourist flow; implementation of infrastructure projects of common interest such as Sofia-Caribrod-Nish highway, Sofia-Caribrod-Nish gas interconnection; expansion of direct links at local level and cross-border cooperation; intensive cultural and educational exchange; assistance and sharing of experience in the process of European integration.

Bulgaria has consistently maintained its principled position that differences in the official positions of the two countries on Kosovo should not hinder the development of bilateral relations, which should be based on mutual trust and pragmatism.

In recent years, political dialogue between the two countries has been extremely intense.
