This was the theme of the 123rd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on May 16 in Strasbourg. Participants focused on opportunities to improve the performance of and co-ordination among the various monitoring mechanisms within the activities of the Council of Europe.

The violence in Syria must stop immediately
Bulgaria is a co-sponsor of the resolution adopted yesterday by the UN General Assembly in regard to the deepening crisis in Syria. This clear appeal by the world organization sends a firm message to the regime of President Assad to embark on dialogue and a process of political transition and to immediately stop violence against his own people.

Jordan thanks Bulgaria for donation of vaccines
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have expressed thanks to Bulgaria for the 98 600 doses of vaccines against tetanus and diphtheria sent by the Bulgarian government in April.

Election day continues for Bulgarian citizens in North and South America
The total number of Bulgarian citizens abroad who had voted by 1.30am Bulgarian time on May 13 was 113 751, and election day was still not over in North and South America. By this time, 2646 Bulgarian citizens had voted in the US, 345 in Washington DC, 545 in New York and 625 in Des Plaines.

71 821 Bulgarians voted abroad by 6 pm
A total of 71 821 Bulgarian citizens voted abroad in the National Assembly elections by 6pm Bulgarian time. The highest voter turnout was in Turkey, 42 226 people.
