Bulgaria highly evaluates the cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the UN in New York, Ambassador Stefan Tafrov, made a statement on item " UN High Commissioner for Refugees " on the agenda of the Third Committee, chaired by Bulgaria within the framework of the  68th session of the UNGA. His statement was in relation to the presentation of the report of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.

In his statement, the Bulgarian permanent representative gave a high evaluation of the cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and for the provision of assistance by the UNHCR to cope with the increased flow of refugees to Bulgaria. AmbassadorTafrov expressed hope that the Bulgarian state will continue to rely on the expert and technical assistance and other support from the international institutions and emphasized that the scale of the refugee wave from Syria is not within the power of the neighboring countries, as well as of the countries from the region.

Ambassador Tafrov presented the package of national measures, identified by the Bulgarian government for improving the country's capacity to meet the refugee wave. The package includes the targets, initiatives, activities, as well as the necessary resources - technical, material, financial, the sources for them, the timing and the plan for their implementation.

In conclusion, support was expressed for the launched reform in the UNHCR,  aimed at improving the efficiency, accountability and capacity of the Commissioner.
