Deputy Minister Angel Velitchkov met with Yank Barry and Evander Holyfield

Deputy Foreign Minister Angel Velitchkov met today with Yank Barry , Canadian billionaire and founder of the Global Village Champions foundations, and with the legendary boxer, Evander Holyfield, who are in Bulgaria to express support to the refugees from the Syrian conflict.
The Deputy Minister said that he highly appreciates the given support. Angel Velitchkov emphasized that the Bulgarian institutions are making the necessary efforts to devise policies that will successfully address the problem. According to him, the number of Syrian refugees in Bulgaria is much smaller than that in the neighboring countries to the conflict, but our country for the first time is confronted with such situation and any support is valuable to us.
In turn, Yank Barry said he will not stop helping the people in need. He called the private sector to be more active and to contribute with financial support to finding a solution to the increased refugee flow to Bulgaria. According to him, the EU and the wealthier countries must demonstrate empathy and understanding to the challenges faced by our country.
Both shared the common concern that certain groups in society benefit from the events in recent weeks and are trying to create xenophobic attitudes, which is unacceptable.
