Kristian Vigenin held talks with the President and the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine

During his official visit to Kyiv, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin held talks with the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, and the Chairman of the Parliament, Volodymyr Rybak.

The talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Leonid Kozhara confirmed the traditionally good character of the Bulgarian- Ukrainian relations and our long-term plans to deepen the cooperation between the two countries in the field of European integration. This was said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin during the approximately one hour- long meeting with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

Earlier, Kristian Vigenin held talks with the Chairman of the Parliament Volodymyr Rybak. Minister Vigenin confirmed the importance and the role of Ukraine, including in its capacity as a Chair-in-Office of the OSCE, for the security, the prosperity and the stability in Europe.

During today’s talks, Kristian Vigenin focused on the opportunities to improve the trade and economic relations between the two countries. Minister Vigenin expressed hope that the visit of Volodymyr Rybak, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, to Bulgaria this year will contribute to the activation of both the inter-parliamentary exchanges and the development of the bilateral relations.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Bulgarian government for the provided support on our path to European integration. We do not stop, we continue to do our work on all the necessary reforms," said Volodymyr Rybak. The Bulgarian Minister gave an invitation oh behalf of the Chairman of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov, for the participation of deputies from the Verkhovna Rada in the upcoming seminar on Ukraine- EU cooperation in the context of the preparation of the Eastern Partnership Summit.

During his working visit to Ukraine, Minister Kristian Vigenin was hosted at the highest state and government level. During the meetings, the topics of discussion included issues of mutual interest in the field of bilateral relations, the cross-border cooperation, topics on the European agenda, as well as other topical international issues.

Minister Vigenin laid flowers at the monument of the Bulgarian national hero Captain Petko Voivoda in the Ukrainian capital. The program of the official two-day visit of Kristian Vigenin to Ukraine includes meetings with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Kyiv and Odessa.
