Ukraine's integration with the European Union will create new opportunities for deepening the cooperation between Bulgaria and Ukraine

The political association and the economic integration of Ukraine with the EU will create new and wider perspectives for further development and deepening of the cooperation between Bulgaria and Ukraine in various fields. This view was shared by Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin and his Ukrainian counterpart Leonid Kozhara during their meeting.

Minister of  Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin, who is on a two-day official visit to Ukraine, met today with the Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Leonid Kozhara. During the talks they discussed issues of bilateral relations and regional cooperation, the friendly attitude of the Ukrainian authorities to the Bulgarian diaspora in the context of the minority policy and the mutual commitment to establishing a good business climate.

The next step was made towards expanding the legal and contractual basis of the bilateral relations in the context of the cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

Kristian Vigenin commented with his hosts also issues on the European agenda , in the light of the upcoming Summit on 28-29 November 2013 in Vilnius. "Bulgaria looks forward to the signing of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement during the Eastern Partnership Summit, for which the Ukrainian side will have the wisdom to achieve the much needed compromise," said Minister Vigenin.

During the conversation the use of the opportunities for the implementation of joint Bulgarian-Ukrainian projects at regional level for which funding from various EU programs is sought, was also discussed.

"Ukraine as a strategic partner holds an important place among the foreign policy priorities of Bulgaria. The enhanced dialogue in recent months will lead to an expansion of our cooperation in all spheres of the bilateral relations in which there are no open issues," Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said during his meeting with the Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the cooperation in the field of culture, science and education, which in recent years is developing in an ascending manner.

"We are pleased that we are restoring the contacts at the highest level. The actual trade between the two countries does not correspond to the available opportunities and we should make the necessary efforts to develop more actively our cooperation," Prime Minister Azarov said.

The Prime Minister has confirmed that he will visit Bulgaria next year and in turn, he sent an invitation through Minister Vigenin to his counterpart Oresharski to visit Ukraine in order to continue the active dialogue. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara has also received with pleasure the invitation to visit Bulgaria .

During his visit to Kyiv the Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin also spoke with the President Viktor Yanukovych and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak.
