Mr Dong-bae Kim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Bulgaria, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs During the meeting, the two sides underlined the traditional and friendly relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea as a solid foundation for further developing and deepening bilateral dialogue, especially in light of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, celebrated this year. Meeting of Minister Georg Georgiev with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Bulgaria

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Abdulrahman Aljaber. The two reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations and discussed the possibilities for their further development on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership signed in 2022. Minister Georgiev emphasized that Bulgaria views the United Arab Emirates as one of its most promising partners in the Middle East region.

On October 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China, Mrs. Dai Qingli. During the meeting, the traditional and long-standing relations between Bulgaria and China and the results achieved in bilateral cooperation were highlighted. Minister Georgiev emphasized the pragmatic nature of the ties based on reciprocity and equality. The potential in the trade and economic sphere and the importance of taking concrete steps to balance bilateral trade by expanding Bulgarian exports.

Meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union

Permanent Representative Ambassador Rumen Alexandrov represented Bulgaria at today’s regular meeting of the General Affairs Council, which was held in Luxembourg. The ministers discussed the draft conclusions of the upcoming European Council meeting on 23 October this year, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2028–2034, the packages for simplification of the EU legislation, the procedure against Hungary under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, as well as the creation of the European Democratic Shield.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev took part in the Ministerial Meeting on Interregional Security and Connectivity of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU Member States and the countries of the Eastern Partnership, the Black Sea Region and Central Asia, which took place on 20 October 2025 in Luxembourg. In the first plenary session, the ministers discussed the EU’s new Strategic Approach to the Black Sea, which reflects the region's importance for Europe's security, stability and prosperity.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev took part in the regular monthly meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, which was held today in Luxembourg. During the meeting, the ministers discussed key topics, including Russian aggression against Ukraine, EU-Indo-Pacific relations, the situation in the Middle East, as well as developments in Sudan, Moldova and Georgia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also participated in the meeting on the topic of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The Republic of Bulgaria welcomes the decision of the 222nd session of the Executive Board of UNESCO to nominate Prof. Khaled El-Enany from Egypt as Director-General of UNESCO. Prof. El-Enany is an internationally renowned scholar and has held numerous positions of responsibility, including Director of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, Minister of Antiquities and Tourism of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and UN Special Ambassador for Cultural Tourism.

On 15 October 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikolay Pavlov, officially presented to the diplomatic corps in Sofia the candidature of Ms Mira Raycheva-Shekerjieva for the position of part-time Judge at the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) for the term 2026–2033. The elections for this position will take place on 17 November 2025 during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
