The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, participated via video conference in a special high-level meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, organised by the Finnish Chairmanship of the organisation on 24 February 2025, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the start of Russian aggression against Ukraine. In his speech, Minister Georgiev condemned Russia's gross violation of the UN Charter and the OSCE principles and commitments, the continued attacks against civilians and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, as well as Russia's systematic violations of international humanitarian law. Minister Georgiev reaffirmed Bulgaria's comprehensive support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and stressed the need for joint efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with the legitimate interests of the Ukrainian side. Our top diplomat expressed particular concern about Russia's aggressive behaviour in the Black Sea, which poses a serious threat to security in the region and hinders freedom of navigation, with negative consequences for global food and commodity supply chains. Minister Georgiev stressed the importance of the OSCE's support for Ukraine, which represents a commitment to European security and the international rule of law.
The meeting was attended by a large number of foreign ministers from EU and NATO member states, as well as Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha. The messages sent reaffirmed once again the broad support for Ukraine and its right to self-defence, independence and sovereignty.
