Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria considers the conviction delivered today by the Basic Court in Bitola against Mr Ljupcho Georgievski to be categorically unacceptable. Mr Georgievski is one of the most prominent representatives of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of North Macedonia, the chairman of the Ivan Mihailov Cultural Club – Bitola, which was shut down by the authorities in Skopje, and a Bulgarian citizen.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev held a meeting with the Minister for European Affairs of the Czech Republic, Mr Martin Dvořák. The two ministers highly praised the state of bilateral cooperation between their countries and discussed opportunities for deepening engagement across various areas of mutual interest, both on a bilateral level and within international organisations.

On 11 June 2025, a meeting of the Interinstitutional Coordination Mechanism (ICM) on Bulgaria’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the chairmanship of Minister Georg Georgiev. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the OECD Secretariat, led by Ms Geeta Kothari, OECD Enlargement Process Coordinator.

On 11 June 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Nikolay Pavlov took part in the final stage of the selection competition “Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the United Nations 2025–2026.” The newly elected youth delegates for the 2025–2026 term are Ms Vyara Trifonova and Mr Viktor Tsvetanov.
