Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova represented Bulgaria at today's, 30 May 2023, ordinary meeting of the EU General Affairs Council in Brussels. European ministers started preparations for the upcoming European Council meeting at the end of June 2023 and held hearings under the Article 7 procedures on the rule of law in Poland and Hungary.

Political consultations between Bulgaria and Latvia
On 23 May 2023, political consultations between Bulgaria and Latvia on topical issues on the bilateral and European agenda were held at the Foreign Ministry. On the Bulgarian side, the consultations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova, and on the Latvian side by Ingrida Levrence, Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Governing Board of the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats unanimously approved Bulgaria's candidature
At its meeting held on 26 May 2023 in Helsinki, the Governing Board of the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats unanimously approved Bulgaria's candidature for accession to the Centre. A formal invitation for the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria is to be issued, after which the Minister of Foreign Affairs is to submit a notification of Bulgaria's formal accession to the Memorandum of Understanding signed at the establishment of the Centre, thus completing the formal procedure.
