Minister Petrova Met with EU Youth Delegate to the UN Emili Karakoleva

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova met today with Emili Karakoleva, who was elected a youth delegate of the European Union to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly for the mandate 2026-2027. In the period 2024-2025 Emili Karakoleva successfully fulfilled her mandate as a Bulgarian youth delegate to the UN.

Deputy Minister Christo Polendakov Meets Iranian Ambassador Alireza Irvash

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Christo Polendakov held a meeting today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with H.E. Alireza Irvash, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Bulgaria, as part of the regular bilateral dialogue. During the talks, the two sides welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran on the cessation of hostilities, viewing it as an important first step towards achieving a comprehensive agreement for sustainable and lasting peace in the region.

Bulgaria Elected to UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

The General Assembly of the States Parties to UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, meeting in Paris, elected Bulgaria by a large majority to serve on the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2026 – 2030 term. The election took place on 17 June 2026 during the 11th session of the General Assembly, with Bulgaria receiving the highest number of votes among the candidates from its regional group.
