Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria expresses its strong disappointment at the decision of the authorities in the Republic of North Macedonia to take action to mar the solemn celebration of St. George's Day on 6 May by refusing to allow the Bulgarian Member of the European Parliament and spokesperson for the European People's Party enlargement group, Dr. Andrei Kovachev, the Chairperson of the Bulgarian Memory Foundation, Dr. Milen Vrabevski, and three other Bulgarian citizens to enter their territory.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova led the Bulgarian delegation to participate in the regular meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs/Development Council, which took place in Brussels on 4 May. EU development ministers discussed the global consequences of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), was a special guest.

The Bulgarian Chairmanship of the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum (SCF) is organising a political dialogue on security in the Black Sea region

A dialogue on security issues in the Black Sea region was held in the framework of the Bulgarian Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum on Security Cooperation on 3 May 2023. Participants in the discussion focused on the strategic role of the region in the context of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. An assessment of the adverse impact of the war on overall European security was shared.

A Memorandum of Cooperation between the diplomatic institutes of Bulgaria and Ghana was signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and the newly established Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. At an official ceremony, the document was signed by the Director of the Institute, Tanya Mihailova, and the Coordinating Director of the Ghanaian Institute, Ambassador Akua Aenkora.

Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the team of the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Centre of Romania

On 27 April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a working meeting between Director General for Political Affairs Maya Dobreva and the President of the Romanian Euro-Atlantic Resilience Centre, Ovidiu Raețchi. He briefly presented the activities and objectives of the newly established Centre in 2021, under the leadership of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on resilience building issues. The Romanian side invites NATO and EU stakeholders as well as key partner countries to join the centre.

Political and economic consultations in South Africa at the level of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 25—26 April 2023, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova visited Pretoria to hold political and economic consultations with Alvin Botes, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa. During the consultations, preparations for the visit of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev to Pretoria, which is scheduled to take place in May this year, were discussed.
