Minister Mitov met with Ambassador Avgoustidis

Cyprus is our friend and ally and we share a long history of excellent bilateral relations. The many Bulgarians who live and work there are a bridge between our two countries and contribute to the deepening of our cooperation, said Minister Daniel Mitov at today's meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Sofia Stavros Avgoustidis.
Minister Mitov and Ambassador Avgoustidis exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations and ways to expand them in the fields of trade, energy, cultural exchange. They shared the view that Bulgaria and Cyprus can cooperate in resolving the issue of energy independence. Deposits in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus are an opportunity to diversify gas supplies to the EU, the Foreign Minister said.
Among the topics of conversation were also the expectations from the new European Commission, as well as the importance of the unity of the member states in promoting the EU’s principles and values , including the principle of solidarity in overcoming challenges such as the migratory pressure to which Bulgaria and Cyprus are exposed.
Daniel Mitov and Stavros Avgoustidis discussed the current tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Foreign Minister expressed hope to restore the climate as soon as possible and enable constructive dialogue on the Cyprus issue in order to find a peaceful solution through negotiations under the auspices of the UN Secretary General.
