10 September 2014 News

The post of European Commission's Vice President responsible for Budget and Human Resources is of a significant importance and the fact it was assigned to the Bulgarian nominee is an acknowledgement for your professionalism and excellent work in the outgoing Commission. It is also a result of the support which the current Bulgarian government provided for your bid, said Minister Daniel Mitov in a telephone conversation with Kristalina Georgieva, in which he congratulated her on the portfolio she has been given in the new European Commission.

Your appointment serves as affirmation that the joint efforts of the Bulgarian institutions in support of strong candidates guarantee success and provide opportunities to achieve significant positions. Your indisputable reputation enjoyed among the European colleagues and partners worldwide is built upon high professional skills and hard work over the years, said Minister Mitov.

He emphasized that the new portfolio of Commissioner Georgieva requires a balanced approach and commitment to the finance of EU policies, amounting to over 140 billion euro a year. With regard to the EU budget you will coordinate the activities of all other commissioners and I believe you will have a key contribution to the implementation of the EU strategic priorities. I feel proud as a Bulgarian and secure as a European that Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva takes this huge responsibility for the Union,  the Foreign Minister said.

Daniel Mitov thanked the Bulgarian institutions and the diplomatic service for the timely efforts and dedication, which contributed to the implementation of one of the main priorities of the caretaker government. He wished success to the next Commission, headed by Jean-Claude Juncker in its mission to work for a stronger, more unified and more important European Union.
