Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the interview of the Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle

In connection with the published interview of the Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle with the online edition of EurActiv which cast a shadow over the accession of two member states to the EU, among which Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Dimitar Tsanchev, discussed the issue with Füle’s Chief of Cabinet, Simon Mordue.
Ambassador Tsanchev was assured that the Commissioner has been misunderstood by the interviewers and the headline does not reflect the spirit of the interview. From the office of Commissioner Štefan Füle will address the editorial board of the electronic media in order to make the necessary corrections.
Commissioner Štefan Füle is a member of the European Commission, which has repeatedly argued in favor of dropping the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism for Bulgaria and Romania. In this regard, Bulgaria considers the headline of the interview illogical and unreasonable.
