Meeting of Minister Vigenin with a delegation from the Shanghai Institute for International Studies

27 June 2014 News

Minister Kristian Vigenin met today with a delegation from the Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS), led by its honorary chairman, Professor Yang Jiemian. China is our major strategic partner in Asia and we hope that the traditionally good relations between the two countries will continue to develop, said Minister Vigenin. Affirmation for this are the visits of Bulgarian officials from the highest ranks last year, as well as the 2014 events marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During the meeting, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister and Professor Yang Jiemian exchanged views on a number of topical issues on the international agenda and the trends in the dynamically changing geopolitical situation. They also discussed the Cooperation initiative between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, sharingthe view that it provides additional opportunities for expanding the bilateral ties with China in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, energy, technology, education and culture, and contributes to the leveling up of the relations.

Professor Yang Jiemian emphasized that the purpose of the visit of the SIIS delegation is an expression of the desire to establish institutional links with scientific and research organizations in Bulgaria in order to implement joint initiatives and projects. Minister Vigenin expressed hope that the visit will lay the foundation for a fruitful partnership with similar Bulgarian institutions.
