Minister Kristian Vigenin met with the new Georgian Ambassador to Sofia

13 June 2014 News

In recent years, the relations between Bulgaria and Georgia have intensified and I hope that this will continue in the future because your country is among our priority partners, said Minister Kristian Vigenin at the meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria - Zurab Beridze, held today at the MFA.

They shared the view that the political dialogue between the two countries is excellent, but  there is still untapped potential in the field of economic cooperation. Holding the session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation in Georgia in 2014 will give further impetus to the development of business contacts, said Minister Vigenin. Ambassador Beridze pointed out that Bulgaria is among the most important economic partners of Georgia in the European Union and the Black Sea region.

Among the topics of conversation was also the upcoming signing of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. Minister Kristian Vigenin reaffirmed Bulgaria’s consistent support for the political association and economic integration of the country with the European Union. According to him, Georgia demonstrates a high degree of political stability and positive development, which should be objectively assessed by the European partners, including through the strengthening of the visa dialogue.

Minister Vigenin and Ambassador Beridze discussed and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia in the context of the upcoming NATO Summit in September in Wales. Bulgaria supports Georgia's aspirations to join the Alliance, which will contribute to the stability not only ofthe country, but of the entire region, he said.
