The Government approves the proposed by Minister Vigenin amendments to the Diplomatic Service Act

12 June 2014 News

The Council of Ministers approved today the proposed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs draft bill, amending the Diplomatic Service Act. The proposed changes are a result of several months work of the specially created working group at the MFA, consulted with the Ministry’s leadership and taking into account the opinion of our diplomatic missions abroad. Before being submitted to the CM, the  draft project was presented for public comment.

The main objective of the proposed amendments is to strengthen the professional and expert practices in the diplomatic service by creating conditions for sustainable career development and by restricting the so-called political quota among heads of missions by reducing it from 20 to 10 percent. This restriction should be achieved within three years of entry into force of the act.

The bill also proposes the annual budget of the Ministry to provide resources for assisting Bulgarian citizens abroad. The terms of allocating and restoring the funds will be be regulated by an ordnance of the Government.
