The consultations from Bulgarian side were led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Georgi Dimitrov, and from the Austrian - by Dr. Michael Linhart, Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

Both sides noted the excellent state of the bilateral relations and the active political dialogue. A wide range of international issues was discussed. An increased interaction between Bulgaria and Austria on the agenda of Europe was agreed, particularly on issues related to the European course of the Western Balkan countries and the continued successful implementation of the EU Danube Strategy.

In the context of the Austrian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and the Central European Initiative an enhanced cooperation and high political contacts were agreed.

During his visit to Bulgaria, Dr. Michael Linhart was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin. They discussed the bilateral relations, emphasizing the good level of cooperation and dialogue between Bulgaria and Austria. Minister Vigenin and Dr. Linhart expressed mutual readiness of both countries to enrich the political contacts and agreed on the need for more active use of the existing potential in the field of trade and economic relations.

The relations between Austria and Bulgaria are characterized by a very dynamic development  at all levels and for us this is important, said Kristian Vigenin. "I would like to see in the future a better coordination between our two countries in terms of their policy towards the Western Balkans and South East Europe as a whole," said the Foreign Minister, adding that for Bulgaria this is a priority area. " Our country wants to play a constructive role in the region and has the necessary knowledge and capacity to do so. For us it is important that the topics related to South East Europe are a priority also on the European agenda, " said Kristian Vigenin.
