05 November 2013 News

Secretary General of the MFA, Ambassador Latchezar Petkov held an official meeting with the delegation from the Upper House of the Czech Parliament, headed by Dr. Pavel Lebeda , Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defence and Security.

Ambassador Petkov expressed gratitude for the help that the Czech government has decided to grant to Bulgaria for tackling the problem of the Syrian refugees. In his words , Bulgaria evaluated on merit this act of solidarity on the part of the Czech Republic - a good partner and friend ,  with whom we historically share very close links.

Latchezar Petkov and Dr. Lebeda agreed that the relations between our two countries are traditionally very good and one of the prerequisites for this is the common fate of overcoming the challenges of the transition, shared by Bulgaria and the Czech Republic in recent years. This strong foundation of friendship and partnership allows us to approach in the best way possible  the emerging issues in the field of bilateral cooperation , Ambassador Petkov and Dr. Lebeda commented during the meeting.

Latchezar Petkov expressed hope that the Czech Republic will continue to be our important and reliable partner in Europe. Both sides agreed in their desire to establish even closer contacts and to maintain even more active dialogue at all levels and on all issues of mutual interest on the European agenda. In support of this intention, Ambassador Petkov reaffirmed the interest of our country for a more active involvement in the "Visegrad Group" and in particular - on the issues on the EU agenda , related to the sectoral policies of the Union.

They also exchanged views on the process of Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area and the consistent support we receive for this from the Czech Republic. Latchezar Petkov and Dr. Pavel Lebeda also discussed the  principled and consistent support that our two countries demonstrate for the EU's enlargement to the Western Balkans.
