Kristian Vigenin: Institutions should seek a balance on important issues

07 August 2013 News

“The confrontation, which has been inculcated in Bulgarian society in recent weeks is not good for Bulgaria or the public. It would be appropriate for the institutions, both the President and the Prime Minister, and the ministers, to find a wayso that at least on issues of importance a balance would be struck and further tensionsnot created.” This was said by Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin in an appearance on “The Day Begins” on Bulgarian National Television. He said that a possible veto of the budget amendments would strengthen the dividing lines between the President and Government, as well as in society itself. "My desire, especially as a minister, who has a very direct relationship with the President, because we work together on the priorities in foreign policy, is to have a normal communication between the government and the president," the Foreign Ministersaid.

Minister Vigenin said tht sense of instability and unpredictability of an EU member country always worried its partners. “For them it is important that we are able to act appropriately in such a situation and to fulfill the commitments that we undertake,” he said.

Minister Vigenin also commented on the adoption of the Professional Code for employees of the Foreign Ministry. "The Code is a set of rules that each employee in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should keep to, because that is the way the institution will have the necessary authority," he said. Diplomatic Service is depoliticised and expressions of personal bias should not damage its work, Minister Vigeninsaid.

Work concludes today on the new ordinance, which in accordance with the priorities of the government will create a directorate which will deal with economic relations, Kristian Vigenin said in the BNT studio. This will co-ordinate its actions closely with the Ministry of Economyand Energy, will analyse opportunities for seeking and finding markets for Bulgarian goods abroad and foreign investment in Bulgaria, and will support the expansion of the tourism industry.
