Deputy Minister Hristo Polendakov Discusses Opportunities for a More Active Role for Bulgaria in the International Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence with the Artificial Intelligence Sustainable Development Alliance

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hristo Polendakov held a meeting with Ivaylo Petrov, Chair of the Management Board of the Artificial Intelligence Sustainable Development Alliance (AISDA), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milena Angelova, Deputy Chair of the Management Board, and representatives of the Alliance. The opportunities for deepening cooperation and for promoting the Bulgarian artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem more actively at the international level were discussed.
The discussion focused on international AI governance and preparations for the Second Global Dialogue on AI Governance, which will be held in New York in May 2027. Deputy Minister Polendakov emphasised Bulgaria’s interest in playing a more active role in the process, including the possibility of participating as a co-facilitator, and sought AISDA’s expert contribution in this regard.
The opportunities for drawing on the expertise of the Bulgarian AI ecosystem in introducing artificial intelligence into the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also discussed, as well as for presenting Bulgarian companies, scientific and technological organisations and experts in international fora.
Deputy Minister Polendakov emphasised the need for the development of AI to combine innovation and technological progress with trust, human oversight and the protection of human rights, human dignity, security and democratic principles, including the protection of children’s rights in the age of artificial intelligence.
AISDA presented the opportunities for the Alliance to provide expert and institutional support, including by connecting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with representatives and experts from the Bulgarian AI ecosystem. The representatives of the Alliance expressed their readiness to support Bulgaria’s more active participation and international representation in the field of artificial intelligence.
