Velislava Petrova and Juraj Blanár Discuss New Opportunities for Cooperation Between Bulgaria and Slovakia During Robert Fico’s Visit to Bulgaria

The development of relations between Bulgaria and Slovakia and opportunities for closer cooperation on issues of common European interest were the focus of a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár. The two Ministers discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in the areas of energy, transport connectivity, innovation and new technologies.
The meeting took place as part of the official visit of Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico to Bulgaria. Minister Petrova was part of the official Bulgarian delegation and participated in the plenary talks between the Bulgarian and Slovak delegations, led by Prime Ministers Rumen Radev and Robert Fico.
During the meeting, the two Ministers focused on opportunities to build on the political dialogue between Bulgaria and Slovakia through specific initiatives and partnerships. Among the priorities identified were the exchange of good practices in the development of public-private partnerships, investment in new technologies and the expansion of cooperation in the energy sector.
The Ministers also exchanged views on current issues on the European and international agenda. Minister Petrova emphasised the importance of European Union unity, as well as the need for Europe to strengthen its competitiveness and security.
The two Ministers also discussed preparations for the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework for the 2028–2034 period. In this context, the important role of Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy was emphasised.
At the end of the meeting, Juraj Blanár reaffirmed Slovakia’s full support for Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD. He shared his country’s positive experience and highlighted the important role that OECD membership has played in attracting investment and developing industrial capacity in Slovakia.
