Minister Velislava Petrova Holds Meeting with the Ambassador of Türkiye to Bulgaria, Mehmet Sait Uyanık
21 May 2026 NewsMinister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Bulgaria, Mehmet Sait Uyanık.
During the meeting, the two reaffirmed the excellent dialogue and the friendly and good-neighbourly bilateral relations between their countries, while discussing opportunities for their further development. The two countries will work towards expanding cooperation in new areas, including innovation, digital infrastructure, and green and low-carbon energy technologies.
Minister Petrova underlined that Bulgaria regards Türkiye not only as a neighbouring country, but also as a NATO ally and a key partner in a number of strategic areas. She highlighted the excellent cooperation between the two countries on issues such as combating irregular migration and safeguarding border security, transport connectivity, energy supplies, trade, investment, tourism and defence.
The two also discussed the forthcoming summits of the Heads of State and Government and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the participating countries in the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), which will mark the conclusion of Bulgaria’s rotating Chairmanship-in-Office of the SEECP. At the end of the meeting, it was emphasised that the strong relations between Bulgaria and Türkiye are based not only on joint initiatives at the institutional level, but also on intensive contacts and cultural ties between the two peoples. Bulgaria's top diplomat and Ambassador Uyanık expressed their shared readiness to continue developing bilateral relations on the basis of equality, mutual respect and cooperation.
