Minister Velislava Petrova Holds Meeting with Stephen Doughty, Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Minister Velislava Petrova held a meeting with Stephen Doughty, Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The two discussed the progress and future prospects of the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United Kingdom in key areas, including security and defence, the economy, innovation and high technologies. Particular emphasis was placed on the successful cooperation in combating irregular migration and the organised crime associated with it. In the context of maritime security, opportunities for cooperation were explored both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the European Union’s initiative to establish a Black Sea Maritime Security Hub.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on developments in Ukraine, including the need for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.
The two further discussed potential areas of cooperation within the broader context of the renewed agenda for relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom. In this context, they also examined opportunities for progress on the Youth Experience Scheme. The Bulgarian side reaffirmed its support for a constructive and balanced approach within the framework of the EU – United Kingdom dialogue.
