Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
22 April 2026 News
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria condemns the latest large-scale attacks against Ukrainian cities, including Odesa, Kyiv and Dnipro, which have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives and express our sympathy to all those affected. Bulgaria shares the pain of the Ukrainian people in this difficult moment.
Strikes against civilian and critical infrastructure and residential buildings are particularly unacceptable. Attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure are unequivocally inadmissible and run counter to the fundamental principles of international law.
Bulgaria calls for the immediate cessation of attacks against civilians and emphasises the need to hold accountable those responsible for crimes against human life.
Our country remains in solidarity with Ukraine and with the efforts of the international community to bring an immediate end to the violence and to achieve a just and lasting peace, based on robust security guarantees for Ukraine and in full accordance with the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains in constant contact with its diplomatic representatives on the ground. At present, there is no information regarding any Bulgarian nationals affected.
