Georg Georgiev at the Launch of the MFA Project “Togetherness of Religions and Communities in Bulgaria: Dimensions of Public Engagement and Diplomacy with Universal Relevance”: Bulgaria Embodies a Tolerance Shaped by Centuries of Coexistence and Mutual Adaptation

12 May 2025 News

"Bulgaria possesses a distinctive form of soft power: the quiet strength of tolerance – not the kind born of convenience or political correctness, but one shaped by daily life, by shared stories, by the enduring rhythms of our villages, neighbourhoods and marketplaces. It is a tolerance that has grown through centuries of coexistence and mutual adaptation." With these words, Minister Georgiev addressed the audience comprising leaders of Bulgaria’s main religious denominations, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the academic and expert communities, during today's presentation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the publication "Togetherness of Religions and Communities in Bulgaria: Dimensions of Public Communication and Diplomacy with Universal Applicability". Among the speakers at the event was also Boyko Vassilev, host and producer of the Bulgarian National Television programme “Panorama”, who delivered an address to those in attendance.

The publication, produced in English, is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Institute. It features the reports of participants held on the same theme in October last year, organised by the MFA and the Diplomatic Institute. The seminar's aim was to present and formulate a deeper exploration of several prominent moral virtues of the Bulgarian people - foremost among them tolerance, humanism, and the absence of fanaticism – examined in the context of their contribution to European diversity.
