Georg Georgiev Chairs the Meeting of the Interdepartmental Council on the Country's Participation in NATO and the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, chaired the meeting of the Interdepartmental Council on the country's participation in NATO and the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of senior representatives of key institutions in the fields of defence, security, and the economy, including the Minister of Defence, Mr. Atanas Zapryanov, the Minister of Economy, Mr. Petar Dilov, Deputy Ministers of the Interior and Transport, as well as representatives of the National Assembly, the Administration of the President and the Security Council at the Council of Ministers.

The session addressed issues of strategic importance for the national security and defence policy of the Republic of Bulgaria. Topics discussed included Bulgaria's opportunities in the context of the White Paper on the Future of European Defence and the EU's Readiness Strategy. The security situation in the Black Sea region and its geostrategic implications for Bulgaria were also examined. The meeting included a review of Bulgaria’s participation in international missions and operations under the auspices of the EU and NATO.

The discussion further focused on Bulgaria’s preparations for its participation in the upcoming NATO Summit, to be held in The Hague from 24 to 26 June 2025, as well as on the country’s continued support for Ukraine. Measures and decisions aimed at building national capacity to counter hybrid threats were also on the agenda.
