Minister Georg Georgiev Participates in NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Georg Georgiev, took part in the NATO Foreign Minister’s Meeting, held on 3 and 4 April 2025 in Brussels.

The meeting began with a working lunch, during which Minister Georgiev and his counterparts from the Alliance discussed key priorities, including the strengthening of collective defence and the increase of defence investment. A strategic framework was also prepared for the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague in June 2025, which will outline new directions for the Alliance’s future development.

During the second working session, Minister Georgiev joined a discussion with partners from the Indo-Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and Japan. The focus of the talks was on enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including support for Ukraine, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and countering hybrid threats.

A session of the NATO-Ukraine Council was also held as part of the meeting, with the participation of the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha. The session highlighted the need to continue supporting Ukraine, as well as the importance of efforts to achieve a lasting and just peace, accompanied by security guarantees for the country.

On the second day of the meeting, Minister Georgiev took part in a session with the High Representative of the EU, Kaja Kallas. Strategic directions for NATO – EU  cooperation in the field of the defence industry and the strengthening the European pillar within the Alliance’s overall defence architecture were discussed.
