Georg Georgiev Speaks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, held a conversation with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. The two met on the sidelines of the NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brussels.
Georg Georgiev and Marco Rubio discussed the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United States, placing emphasis on key steps toward deepening cooperation in the fields of defence and nuclear energy. Minister Georgiev highlighted the achievements in the modernisation of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, carried out in partnership with the United States – most notably the acquisition of F-16 Block 70 fighter jets, the first of which landed on Bulgarian soil yesterday. The Bulgarian top diplomat also underlined the joint projects for our country's acquisition of the new Stryker infantry fighting vehicles and Javelin anti-tank missile systems.
The strategic importance of the agreement with the American company "Westinghouse", aimed at diversifying the nuclear fuel supply for the Kozloduy NPP, was also among the topics discussed by Georgiev and Rubio. The two agreed that strengthening of cooperation in the fields of defence and energy remains a priority objective, both within the framework of bilateral relations and in the context of NATO. Georg Georgiev and Marco Rubio confirmed their commitment to continuing their dialogue, including through a visit by the Bulgarian Foreign Minister to Washington.
