The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georg Georgiev, today held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. This was the first official contact between the two ministers since Minister Georgiev took office.
During the conversation, both confirmed the commitment of Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia to deepen bilateral political dialogue at high and highest levels, with a view to the upward development of relations between the two countries and the unlocking of significant potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Minister Georgiev emphasized that Bulgaria considers the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to be one of its most promising partners in the Middle East region. The two ministers discussed sectoral cooperation in a number of key areas. In this regard, the importance of the upcoming first meeting of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia was highlighted, which will provide a platform for defining priorities for future cooperation. Minister Georgiev also confirmed Bulgaria's readiness to host a second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries in Sofia.
During the conversation, the role of Saudi Arabia as a key factor for stability in the Persian Gulf and Middle East region was also discussed. Minister Georgiev emphasized Bulgaria's high appreciation for the Kingdom's efforts in this direction and our country's commitment to supporting international initiatives for sustainable peace and security in the region.
In conclusion, the two ministers agreed to maintain active political dialogue and interaction in order to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Invitations were also exchanged for visits for both ministers, respectively, to Sofia and Riyadh.
