Georg Georgiev to EU ambassadors in Sofia: Unity within the EU is more important than ever

The regular dialogue between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ambassadors of the European Union in our country is of key importance, as our countries share a common vision for the future and face common challenges. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, during his meeting today with the ambassadors of the EU member states accredited in Sofia. The meeting was organised by the Polish Embassy, in its capacity as rotating presidency of the Council of the EU. During the conversation, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister emphasised unity within the EU, which, according to him, is more important than ever in the context of the changing geopolitical environment and external threats.
Minister Georg Georgiev discussed with the heads of missions of the EU countries in Sofia the topics on the European agenda and the foreign policy priorities of our country. Joining the Eurozone remains one of them and the Bulgarian institutions are working intensively and making good progress in all working areas to achieve this goal. Georg Georgiev also highlighted the progress of our country in the process of joining the OECD. Our desire is to complete the technical phase of the process by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026.
Minister Georgiev and the European ambassadors exchanged positions on current developments in the Middle East region, policy towards Ukraine in response to Russian aggression and other issues on the international agenda. The Bulgarian chief diplomat pointed out that we will work in close cooperation with the new US administration to address the pressing global challenges together.
Among the issues discussed was the enlargement of the EU, based on respect for the principle of own merits in fulfilling the conditions and commitments made.
