Deputy Minister Maria Anguelieva participates in International Conference in Support of Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty
24 October 2024 NewsOn 24 October 2024, Deputy Minister Maria Anguelieva participated in an International Conference in Support of Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty, held on the President of France Emmanuel Macron’s initiative.
The aim of the conference was to contribute to efforts towards reaching a diplomatic solution to the crisis for the safe return of the displaced, to mobilize the international community to meet the needs of the Lebanese people and to express solidarity and support for Lebanon’s sovereignty.
In her statement, Deputy Minister Anguelieva called for the implementation of Resolution 1701 and supported the diplomatic efforts of France and the US to stop the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. She emphasised the need to address the humanitarian crisis and assist internally displaced persons, as well as the urgency of providing humanitarian access. ‘Bulgaria is ready to participate in international initiatives to help the people of Lebanon. In this regard, we have taken urgent measures to provide humanitarian aid to UNICEF in Lebanon in the amount of EUR 50,000’ — Deputy Minister Anguelieva stated.
The high-level conference was attended by representatives of a large number of countries and international organisations, including EU Member States, G20 countries, countries from the region, the UN, the World Bank and many others.
