On 25 October 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a meeting between Minister Ivan Kondov and the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Sofia, H.E. Mr Nathaniel Copsey took place.

The two sides noted the excellent state of relations between Bulgaria and the United Kingdom and discussed opportunities for building and deepening them both on a bilateral basis and through multilateral formats. In this context, the importance of the October 2023 joint declaration on strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the UK and the initiative of Prime Minister Starmer’s government to ‘reset’ the UK's relations with the EU was highlighted. Prospects for the development of bilateral political dialogue at high and top level were also discussed.

Minister Kondov underlined Bulgaria's appreciation for the consistent British support for Bulgaria's accession to the OECD and referred to the good preconditions for deepening cooperation between Bulgaria and the United Kingdom in all areas of mutual interest, based on shared values, similarities in foreign policy priorities and the good bilateral contacts established.

The fruitful cooperation on countering disinformation and hybrid threats as well as the good cooperation in the fight against illegal migration were noted.

Issues from the European and international agenda were also discussed, including Russia's war in Ukraine, security in the Black Sea, the Western Balkans.
