15 October 2023 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel took part in the Prayer for Peace in the Sofia Synagogue. The event was initiated by the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom", the Central Israelite Spiritual Council, the Federation of Zionists in Bulgaria and the Organization of Friends of Israel in Bulgaria "Negev".

"Bulgaria condemns in the strongest terms the brutal terrorist attacks of Hamas in Israel. We stand with the people of Israel at this time and extend our condolences to the victims and their families," Maria Gabriel told the audience.

She was adamant that the civilians taken hostage must be released immediately and unconditionally.

"There is no justification for such an act of violence and Israel is within its rights to defend itself under international and humanitarian law," the deputy prime minister said.

Gabriel stressed the need to make every effort to prevent escalation in the region

"Support to all those who are guided in their actions by the will to end violence. So that in the darkness the ray of light may shine again", Maria Gabriel sent a message.

The Prayer for Peace was attended by President Rumen Radev, the Speaker of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov, the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, ministers, MPs, ambassadors, members and friends of the Jewish community in Bulgaria.
