Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov opened on 16 May 2023 the exhibition ‘Fragments of Modern Art in Montenegro from the Collection of the National Museum’. The exhibition is visiting Bulgaria for the first time on the initiative of the State Institute for Culture at the Minister of Foreign Affairs and with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Podgorica. Special guests at the opening ceremony were Danijela Đurović, spokesperson of the Parliament of Montenegro and the Director of the National Museum Jakša Ćalasan.
In his welcoming speech, Minister Kondov described the realization of this initiative as a proof of the strong cultural and historical ties between Bulgaria and Montenegro and their importance for deepening the cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and other areas of shared interest. The exhibition presented paintings and sculptures by artists who played an important role in the development of Montenegrin fine arts in the late second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. ‘The long-standing cultural partnership between our countries has been reflected in numerous exhibitions presented both in Bulgaria and in Montenegro, carried out with the assistance of the State Institute for Culture, Bulgarian Academy of Science, the National Library ‘St. St. Cyril and Methodius’ and the respective Montenegrin cultural institutions’, the Minister pointed out in the light of the rich cultural ties and the potential for joint activities between Bulgaria and Montenegro.
Director of the State Cultural Institute Snezhana Yoveva stressed that the visit of the exhibition from Montenegro is a continuation of the fruitful partnership and the successful presentation a year ago of an exhibition of paintings from the Art Fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — ‘Diplomacy and Art’, in the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Cetinje at the National Museum of Montenegro.
