13 June 2022 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova met with the Deputy Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ulrik Knudsen.

During the conversation, Deputy Minister Petrova thanked for the excellent cooperation with the OECD Secretariat so far and expressed the hope that we will be able to rely on its valuable support and guidance in the future. She stressed that membership in the Organisation is one of Bulgaria’s main foreign policy priorities, on which there is a broad socio-political consensus. Our country will make efforts to successfully complete the accession process in the shortest possible time and it will accelerate important national reforms for better governance, Velislava Petrova added.

"Bulgaria will have the opportunity to assess its legislation and policies against the best practices and standards in the OECD, to take decisive steps in the fight against corruption and increase transparency, which will lead to an increase in trust in our country and will attract more investment,” Deputy Minister Petrova said.

By joining the OECD, the country will have the opportunity to actively participate and have a voice in the search for solutions to current global challenges, she stressed.

Ulrik Knudsen is visiting Bulgaria in the period 13-14 June as head of the OECD preparatory mission immediately after the OECD Annual Ministerial Council Meeting (9-10 June 2022), during which the Roadmap for Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD was adopted. The purpose of the visit is to discuss concrete steps related to the parameters, stages and conditions of the accession process.
