15 April 2022 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova received Iran’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Seyed Mohammad Javad Rasouli. During the meeting, a wide range of topics were discussed, including the opportunities for strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

Deputy Minister Petrova extended her condolences to the relatives of the two Iranian clerics killed in the attack on the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad on 5 April 2022. She stressed that Bulgaria attaches great importance to the development of relations with Iran and reaffirmed the readiness to resume the political and sectoral dialogue to the pre-Covid-19 pandemic level by holding a new round of political consultations soon, as well as the next 20th Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Tehran. Ambassador Rasouli warmly thanked for the gesture of the Bulgarian side to donate nearly 3 million vaccines against Covid-19 to Iran.

In the course of the talks, the two discussed the possibilities for holding a number of events on the bilateral calendar in the context of this year’s celebration of 125 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Deputy Minister Petrova summarized that the joint celebration of the anniversary, the recently held 10th meeting of the Joint Commission on Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking, as well as the fruitful cooperation in the field of transport, show the good level of relations between Bulgaria and Iran, adding that this is an excellent basis for the further development of the bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
