The head of the political cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Kireva received the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria Hussein Husseinov.
In a conversation with Ambassador Husseinov, Elena Kireva stressed that Azerbaijan is an important strategic partner for Bulgaria, especially in the energy sector. He pointed out that we consider the supplies of Azerbaijani gas and gas from the Southern Gas Corridor as an integral part and condition for diversification of routes and energy sources.
Among the topics of the meeting were the common desire to intensify the strategic partnership, as well as the opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, transport and sports. The Bulgarian side expressed readiness to maintain and develop bilateral relations and praised the active political dialogue in recent years.
The two interlocutors also discussed the implementation of joint initiatives in the context of celebrating in 2022 the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. They agreed that this would further strengthen co-operation in areas with unrealized potential. The calendar of expected visits in this jubilee year was also discussed.
