Deputy Minister Petrova met with Deputy Secretary of the Australian Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment

08 April 2022 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova received Deputy Secretary of the Australian Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment James Larsen, with whom she discussed co-operation within UNESCO. The meeting was also attended by representatives of other Bulgarian agencies involved in the protection of world natural and cultural heritage.

James Larsen detailed Australia's efforts to conserve the Great Barrier Reef and progress in implementing the 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan.

Both sides highlighted the need to protect the world heritage, which is influenced by climate change, to avoid politicizing the issue and to promote the search for joint solutions, given the global nature of climate change.

Velislava Petrova and James Larisen agreed that due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, it is not possible to hold the annual session of the World Heritage Committee in Russia.
