The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev confirmed the determined and consistent support of Bulgaria for the European integration of the countries of the Western Balkans during a meeting with the Secretary General of the Sarajevo-based Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Majlinda Bregu.

Among the topics of conversation were Bulgaria's interaction with the RCC and regional cooperation.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister praised the partnership between Bulgaria and the Regional Cooperation Council, and welcomed the contribution of the RCC to the region's rapprochement with the European Union.

We highly appreciate the partnership of the RCC during the joint presidency of Bulgaria and Republic of North Macedonia in the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans last year, said our first diplomat.

On the topic of the European integration of Albania and Republic of North Macedonia, the Bulgarian side emphasized its consistent support for the European path of the two countries. With regard to Republic of North Macedonia, the need to comply with the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation of 2017 was emphasized, as well as the efforts of the Bulgarian side to intensify bilateral dialogue and restore trust at all levels.

In the context of the role of the RCC as an operational mechanism of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), the Bulgarian side stressed the key role of the Process initiated by Bulgaria 25 years ago. “Connectivity between countries is one of the main priorities for the region. Improving synergies between cooperation mechanisms in South East Europe is in our common interest. Strengthening relations between the SEECP member states and the EU continues to be a top priority for Bulgaria," said Svetlan Stoev.
