08 October 2021 News

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev received the Ambassador of Algeria Latifa Benazza in connection with the end of her office. Cooperation between the two countries, the potential for the development of trade and economic relations, as well as particular opportunities for holding high-level meetings in the future, when the situation with COVID-19 allows, were discussed.

Bulgaria attaches great importance to relations with Algeria. Since the struggle of the Algerian people for national liberation, bilateral relations have developed on a solid foundation, built on fruitful friendship and mutual assistance.

The 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year provides a good opportunity for the further development of bilateral relations and political dialogue.

"Algeria is our traditional and important economic partner in the North African region. I hope that in the future the two countries will make the necessary efforts and particular initiatives to expand trade and economic cooperation," said the Bulgarian Foreign Minister.

He praised the efforts made by Ambassador Benazza to intensify bilateral contacts, including the first since 1984 visit of an Algerian Foreign Minister to Bulgaria in 2018.

Minister Stoev informed Ambassador Benazza that he proposed that she be awarded a state award - the Order of the Madara Horseman, before she left the country.

For her part, Ambassador Latifa Benazza said that she feels Bulgaria as her second home and when she returns to Algeria, she will continue to work for the development of relations between our countries.
