The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of Bulgaria to Republic of Estonia based in Sofia Selver Khalil presented his credentials to President Kersti Kalulaid at an official ceremony on May 25, 2021 at the Presidential Palace "Kadriorg" in Tallinn. Following the ceremony, Ambassador Khalil spoke with President Kalulaid, highlighting the fruitful partnership and similar positions on a number of key topics on the EU agenda. The excellent cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative was noted, including in the context of the preparations for the Sixth Summit on July 8-9, 2021 in Sofia. Opportunities for deepening and intensifying bilateral relations were highlighted.

Ambassador Khalil met with Mart Volmer, Secretary of State for European Affairs, and Jane Ruusalu, Director of the Southeast Europe and the EU Directorate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and with Silver Tamik, Director of the EU and International Cooperation Directorate with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of Estonia. A meeting was also held with the Director of the Estonian Board of Tourism, with the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in Estonia, as well as with representatives of the Bulgarian community in the country. Ambassador Khalil informed that since the end of March 2021 there has been a National Tourist Representation at the Embassy of Republic of Bulgaria in Warsaw, whose territorial scope includes Estonia. Opportunities for mutual cooperation in the field of tourism, trade and economic relations and digitalisation were discussed at the meetings.

September 10, 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the restoration of bilateral relations. In 2022 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Estonia.
