Ekaterina Zaharieva and Georg Georgiev took part in a ceremony commemorating the victims of the Holocaust

27 January 2021 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Anti-Semitism Coordinator Georg Georgiev took part in an online ceremony marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Social Equality of Israel and brought together presidents, ministers, Holocaust survivors, their families, representatives of non-governmental organizations and Jewish communities around the world.

"Never again!" was the definite message sent by the participants.

The commemoration was broadcast live from Jerusalem, and was joined by the Terezin concentration camp event in the Czech Republic.

Bulgaria has been a member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) since 2018. During World War II, with the joint efforts of civil society and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, 48,000 Bulgarian Jews were saved. We worship and regret the tragic fate of 11,343 Jews from the territories of White Sea Thrace and Vardar Macedonia, whom we honour and remember.
