A festive concert of the Honorary Guards Brass Band of the Republic of Bulgaria was given in Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 7 to mark the start of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The event took place at the National Theater in Sarajevo within the framework of the 34th edition of the International Festival Sarajevo Winter.
The main concert was preceded by a brief appearance of the Bulgarian musicians at the town square in front of the theater for the benefit of the city residents and visitors.
The official concert program at the National Theater, dubbed ‘A Meeting of Cultures: from Brass to Jazz’, was opened by Ibrahim Spahić, the Director of the Sarajevo Winter Festival, and the Bulgarian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Avgustina Tzvetkova.
Amid frenetic applause by cabinet ministers, senior statesmen, members of the diplomatic corps and participants in the festival from around the word, the Honorary Guards Brass Band performed a medley of works by Bulgarian and foreign authors, jazz and swing standards, and famous segments from soundtracks. Its repertoire was selected in unison with the festival motto, ‘The Other Face of the World’, and in the spirit of the slogan of the Bulgarian Presidency, ‘United We Stand Strong’.
Ambassador Avgustina Tzvetkova was awarded an Honorary Diploma for the contribution of the Republic of Bulgaria to the culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in gratitude for Bulgaria’s steadfast support for that country’s chosen European path.
The national television channel BHTV aired the concert live, enabling the messages of our Presidency and the traditions of Bulgarian culture to reach the broadest possible audience.
