08 February 2018 News

The priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU were presented to the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia by Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Ljubljana Dimitar Abadjiev.

In his speech at a regular meeting of the upper chamber of the Slovenian Parliament held on February 7, Ambassador Abadjiev pointed out that Bulgaria approaches with a heightened sense of responsibility the forthcoming debates and decisions to be adopted in the course of the Presidency, which will impact the future of the Union for years to come. He dwelled upon the motto of the Presidency, ‘United We Stand Strong’, underscoring that today more than even the member states of the EU must be united in order to uphold their interests in an ever more dynamic world.

The Bulgarian diplomat also emphasized the European perspective of the Western Balkans, stating that Slovenia and Bulgaria have similar interests and priorities involving a clear prospect for EU membership of the Western Balkans as a factor of stability and security in the region.

The Chairman of the National Council of Slovenia Aloiz Kovsica also made a speech, and the ensuing discussion touched upon issues related to the Bulgarian Presidency and the agenda of the European Union.
