Deputy Foreign Minister Todor Stoyanov took part in a ministerial conference on the subject of migration and the challenges it entails. The forum took part in Rome on February 6 of this year.
The Conference was opened jointly by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano, the Director General of the International Organization of Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing, the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger and the Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister.
The emphasis in the discussions among participants in the Conference was on the opportunities for strengthening cooperation and adopting a collective approach to the management of migration. The forum presented programs of investment and cooperation that would assist transit countries in Africa in the management of migration flows while also providing more economic alternatives to the population of those areas.
This is the second edition of this format; last year’s conference in the Italian capital was focused on reducing migration flows while at the same time protecting the rights of migrants.
Participating in the Conference were representatives of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Libya, Malta, the Netherlands, Niger, Spain, Sudan and Tunisia.
